What is Lock Chicago?

We are a new Escape Room experience here in the Chicago area, located at 820 Davis Street, Suite 151, Evanston IL. Our themed rooms are designed with challenges that will require guests to use equal parts creativity, teamwork, and brainpower to complete them, creating live experiences you'd normally only be able to get from a screen. Challengers will have one hour to beat the room using only their teamwork, brainpower, and the resources given to them, or fail and have their picture put up on the "Wall of Valiant Efforts".

What is an Escape Room?

An Escape Room is a space that has been decorated, designed, and furnished with puzzles and challenges pertaining to a specific theme. The room holds several puzzles, riddles, and challenges that will eventually lead the player to the ultimate goal of unlocking the door to the room and walking out victorious. However, there will be no locked doors here at Lock Chicago (despite the name). Instead, you will be presented with different goals and scenarios, which we believe opens up the possibilities of a room tremendously. That's why our rooms are Challenge Rooms rather than Escape Rooms.

How Many Rooms Are Available?

Currently Lock Chicago operates 2 unique experiences: Sunburn, a light-based challenge room for 1-10 players, and Malfunction, a mechanical challenge room for 1-10 players. More will be opening up in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Is there a Waiver?

Yes, all guests must sign our online waiver before participating in our games. Don't worry! Our games are very safe for all ages, it's just standard legal mumbo jumbo.

Do You Host Team Building Events?

Lock Chicago is an ideal setting for team building events across all channels. Participants must come together to utilize their creativity, ingenuity and communication skills to complete the common goal.

Email: info@lockedchicago.com for more information regarding our team building events.

Do you Offer Food and Drinks?

Currently we only offer the experiences in our Escape Rooms, but downtown Evanston has anything you'd want as far as food, drink and refreshments go. Giordano's is right down the street, but we whole heartedly recommend checking out Table to Stix Ramen (one of our personal favorites).

Do You Offer Gift Certificates?

Yes! Escape Rooms make perfect gifts, and you can purchase a gift certificate to any room from the 'Send a Gift' button at the bottom of our Reservations page . You don't need to book an actual time either, just purchase the tickets and we'll send either you or your recipient an email with a code that can be used at checkout, leaving it up to them to book the perfect time. You can also send a dollar amount and let them decide when and on what rooms to use the gift on, but please keep in mind to include an additional 10% for service fees to your dollar amount, otherwise your friends will need to pay the service fee when booking their reservation. Email us at info@lockedchicago.com if you have any questions about gifting!

What Happens if I am late?

Unfortunately, in the spirit of being courteous and fair to all visitors to our space we must have strict lateness policies.

Private Rooms: All visitors must come to the space 15 minutes before their start time. If you have reserved the room wholly for your party, you may still enter the room if you arrive at your start time. Any later and you will risk interrupting players participating in other rooms.

Public Rooms: If you are participating in a room that has not been reserved for a private group, you will not be allowed to participate if you arrive less than 15 minutes before your start time. This would not be fair to the players who are already preparing to go into the room.

With all of this in mind, players MUST arrive 15 minutes before their reserved start time. If you are driving, please come a few minutes earlier to look for parking.

What do I Need to Know Before Arrival?

Lock Chicago will test your mental capabilities and ability to communicate effectively as a team. Doing so under the influence is discouraged, and anyone we determine to be under the influence will be asked to leave and will not be issued a refund. Save it for the celebrations after you hopefully succeed!

All guests MUST arrive 15 minutes prior to their reservation. If you are late you risk being not able to participate as there is necessary prep and introduction time as well as check-in.

All you need to do is bring yourself!  We have lockers where you may store bags, purses, phones, etc. in a secure location and they will be waiting for you once you finish. You are permitted to bring your phone into the room only if it is either silenced or on airplane mode. You will also need to sign a waiver before we can let you enter a room.

Are Participants Physically Locked in the Rooms?

No - name aside, Lock Chicago aims to take the experience of the traditional Escape Room beyond its original means, which is why our rooms are Challenge Rooms. Doors will never be locked, and we pride ourselves on providing challenges and scenarios that keep end-goals, strategies, and puzzles as different as they can be from room to room. However, if a player needs to leave a room at anytime during their 1 hour, they will not be allowed back into the room.

Is There an Age Limit?

While there isn't necessarily a restriction, our puzzle rooms are recommended for players above the age of 12. Those under that age can still contribute by uncovering clues and observing patterns; however, they may not be able to comprehend the specific details and puzzles of the room.

All guests will be required to sign a waiver before entering a room, but guests under 18 years of age will also need a parent or legal guardian to sign with them. Guests younger than 14 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in the rooms.

Are There Any Restrictions?

Our rooms were designed with one goal in mind: to provide truly innovative experiences to anyone curious enough to search for them. Our rooms are fully accessible to those who are mobility-challenged. If you require the use of a wheelchair or any walking device you may still fully immerse yourself in the experience of Lock Chicago. Our rooms also do not have any "shock-factor" to them, and they're not designed to be scary, so there's no need to worry about that.

As you will all be in a room for an hour with several people, please make sure you do not endanger one another in your rush to solve these rooms. If you know that this environment will cause problems for you, make sure you are truly prepared before committing to participate. Safety is our number one concern, and we have done everything we can to ensure your safety.
